Methodological approaches to the analysis of urban transport systems: systematization and classification

The article is devoted to the systematization and classification of methodological approaches to the analysis of urban transport systems under conditions of increasing complexity of transport processes and digital transformation of the urban environment. The purpose of the study is to generalize existing methods for analyzing urban transport systems and to develop a classification framework that allows structuring the methodological toolkit depending on the nature of data, level of analysis, object of research, and application goals. The methodological basis of the study includes methods of analysis and synthesis, comparative analysis, and a review of scientific publications by Russian researchers for the period 2018–2025. As a result, a set of methods applied to the analysis of urban transport systems was identified, and their systematic characterization was carried out in terms of analytical potential and practical applicability. The findings can be used for comprehensive assessment of the current state of urban transport systems in Russian cities, development of strategic planning documents, formulation of transport modernization programs, and substantiation of managerial decisions in the field of urban mobility.
