The article discusses advantages and disadvantages of the most common methodological approaches to the strategic management. With due consideration for the specific features of the retail trade as an integral object the author substantiates the expediency of application of the structural dynamic approach. It is noted, that the proposed approach allows taking into account the status and the development dynamics of the industries, in one way or another connected with the retail trade, and the need to obtain the expected socio-economic impact.
