Discusses the nature and structure of the research competence of future officers, with an emphasis on the basic principles of its formation, due to the level of research knowledge, development of personal and professional qualities, experience, research activities of students in training. It is shown that the structure of research competence of future officers is represented by: value-motivational, cognitive, and activity components. In order to effectively form research competence in the conditions of a military University, methodological support is considered, which provides for the creation of conditions for improving research work in accordance with modern achievements of science and practice.
