The transition from a linear model of the economy to a circular economy has exacerbated the issue of improving the functioning and development of production systems in the industrial complex. At this stage of development of production and economic relations, the key task is the development of production based on the rational distribution and use of raw materials, materials and energy, the introduction of resource-saving production systems. These provisions predetermined the choice of research topics, the object and subject of research, as well as the goals of the research - the development of a methodology for assessing resource-saving production systems in a circular economy. As research methods, the article uses methods (to characterize the contribution of the petrochemical industry to the development of the economy); component analysis (to form the number of factors that demonstrate the level of their impact on the development of the circular economy in the context of sub-growths of the petrochemical industry); factor analysis method (for grouping indicators of the introduction of resource-saving production systems in the circular economy according to the strength of influence on resource-saving trends in industry). Based on the results of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1) the highest indicators for achieving the level of development of resource-saving production systems among the sub-sectors of the petrochemical industry are observed in the production of rubber and plastics; 2) among the inhibitors of the development of resource-saving production systems in the petrochemical industry, the main one is the low use of production waste recycling (the exception is chemical production); 3) for the production of petroleum products, the production of rubber products and plastics, the unity of drivers is characterized by the replacement of raw materials and materials with safe ones, as well as the reduction of environmental pollution in the form of pollution of the atmosphere, water and soil; 4) a comprehensive methodology for assessing the level of development of resource-saving production systems in the transition to a circular economy is proposed using the example of sub-sectors of the petrochemical industry. The scientific novelty of the results obtained lies in the development of methodological approaches to the analysis of the effectiveness of the introduction of resource-saving production systems in the transition to a circular economy, which is achieved by a combination of tools of analytical and descriptive statistics, allowing a comprehensive approach to the analysis of trends in the transformation of sectors of the economy in terms of resource conservation.
