Methodology for deciding on the cost of technology licenses

In this article, based on the analysis of the literature review on the problem, as well as the previously conducted assessment of market factors, the review of existing approaches and methods for assessing the value of technologies within the framework of the technology licensing process, it was concluded that it is advisable to propose a new method for assessing the value of licenses, depending on the assessment objectives. The author describes the options for determining the value of a technology, taking into account various assessment situations (two key objectives were identified in this study: pricing within a specific contract with a specific licensee; assessing the value of a licensed technology for the internal needs of the licensor), as well as the industry-specific factors and parameters that influence the price of a license and the conclusion of a license agreement. Based on the analysis of methods used in the main approaches to assessing the value of technological licenses, taking into account factors such as the return on investment in technology development, the regional component for determining the license price, the return on investment in technology, and the licensing strategy, a universal methodology for making decisions on the value of licenses for proprietary technological solutions is presented, with specific examples of how the methodology’s tools can be applied at each stage of the assessment process.
