The process of locomotive movement and braking is accompanied by heating of the surface layer of the wheel material up to high temperatures. At temperatures above critical, which corresponds to 300C, softening of the surface layers begins to prevail, which leads to the intensive wear of the contacting surfaces of the wheelset. In this case, it is of certain interest to identify the amount of the wheel heating during braking of the locomotive, which is the focus of the article in which a mathematical calculation model is proposed.
