Based on the analysis of monographic studies and scientific publications on the topic stated in the title of the article, the author identifies two areas that are currently relevant: a) theoretical understanding of issues on which there is no consolidated position in the theory of criminology (the concept of transnational crime, and its signs, the relationship with international, cross-border and trans-territorial crimes, etc.); b) identification of the specifics of the activities of drug cartels in Central America, as well as the development of a system of measures aimed at countering their criminal activities. In addition, the publication of the analytical review "Countering transnational organized crime in the field of drug trafficking in certain Central American States" is announced, covering certain issues in these areas.
