The author of the article consistently justifies the multiplicative influence of the tourism industry on related industries. The article discusses in detail international and national approaches to the multiplicative effect assessment. All methods of calculating the multiplicative effect agree on it is a direct contribution of tourism to the economy, indirect and forced. The most difficult task, according to the author, is to collect information and assess the indirect contribution of tourism to the economy. Further, the options for assessing the indirect contribution are considered in detail, such as: the use of models of the intersectoral balance; the use of a matrix of social accounts (modification of the intersectoral balance); Input-Output tables. By analyzing the practices used to assess the indirect contribution of tourism to the economy at the international and national level the author determines the problems of calculations. The bottleneck is the collection of statistical data of the tourism industry. Statistical data are classified according to All-Russian classifier of types of economic activity and economic institutions. There is also no regional Input-Output table, which makes it difficult to calculate the multiplier. The result of a consistent analysis of the assessment of the multiplicative effect of tourism is that the author brings the reader to the question of one of the priority areas of domestic tourism - the development of rural tourism. The article provides criteria for the selection of rural tourism development projects, based on which formulates the conclusions about the relevance and importance of collecting information to calculate the indirect effect at the initial stage of the implementation of priority agro-tourism projects.
