The paper deals with the features of the meaning and usage of the modern Russian words rossiytsy, rossiyantsy, ereftsy, erefiytsy, erefiane, rusichi, urusy, rusity etc., combined as ethnic and resident names. They variously reflect the trivial concepts of ethnicity, nationality, territorial and cultural affiliation. These words also variously reflect the complex identity hierarchy of the post-Soviet Russian-speaking people.
