Between socialism and capitalism: hero's drama in "Notes of elderly boy" novel by G. Bashkuev

The article analyzes the story “Notes of an Elderly Boy” (2007) by the famous Buryat prose writer Gennady Bashkuev. The question of the relationship of the character of the hero, his life and destiny with the peculiarities of the transitional historical time - between the eras of socialism and capitalism is considered. According to the author of the article, the spatial structure of the story deserves special attention. The article highlights topos of yard and barrack that affects the formation of the personality of a growing person. It is concluded that the drama of historical eras is overcome in the situation of the hero gaining real masculinity.
