International legal assessment of aircraft seizure and other unlawful acts against the safety of civil aviation

The conventional mechanism of establishing the criminal nature of acts against the safety of civil aviation is considered. The relevant international rules and the corresponding provisions of the Russian criminal law are analyzed. The problem of compliance of the implementing rules of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation with the international treaties is examined. The authors present the classification of offenses against the safety of civil aviation, unlawful acts on aircraft, and attacks at airports and conduct the criminal law analysis of the relevant acts in this regard. The research findings demonstrate that it is necessary to amend the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and bring it into line with current international standards due to the lack of provisions in it regarding liability for acts of violence at airports serving international civil aviation.
