International legal nature of regional fisheries management organizations

The article examines the role of regional international organizations for fisheries management in the World Ocean, defines their place among the subjects of international fisheries law, identifies the features of the international legal status, and classifies them based on various grounds. The functions, competence, and structure of such organizations, membership, and other modern legal forms of participation of states and other subjects of international law in them, and the features of cooperation with other international organizations are analyzed. It is noted that regional cooperation has great potential for increasing the efficiency of legal measures taken to manage fisheries, assist in conducting scientific research, attracting investment, advanced technologies, and preventing duplication of expenses for the study of marine living resources. At the same time, there are some legal problems with the status and activities of regional organizations for fisheries management. Recommendations have been developed to strengthen the legal status of such organizations and improve the legal regulation of their activities for the purpose of rational management of marine living resources.
