International treaties as means of realization of the international treaties discourse

The article considers the concept of international treaty discourse. It is noted that it has a dual nature - it refers to the legal and diplomatic sphere of state activity. An international treaty refers to the textual stage of speech interaction in diplomatic discourse and is a legal document. The article also considers the peculiarities of the structure of the texts of international treaties. It is noted that the type of discourse that is realized in the text of international treaties combines the features of legal and diplomatic discourse. On the example of two international treaties, the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, adopted on May 23, 1969, and the UNCITRAL Model Law on Electronic Commerce (1996) with additional article 5 bis as adopted in 1998, was examined which features of this type of discourse are characteristic of legal and diplomatic discourse. Diplomatic discourse includes international diplomatic terminology and terminology of international law. This is the vocabulary associated with the establishment of diplomatic relations and the conclusion of international treaties. Also, diplomatic discourse is realized in such a structural part of an international treaty as the preamble. Legal discourse is expressed in the amount of cognitive information, in particular, in such characteristics of the text as terminology, atemporality, use of passive constructions, means of compression, and nominativity. There is also operational information, which is expressed with the help of verb constructions with the meaning of possibility and necessity, modal verbs, and intensifiers. It is concluded that international treaty discourse is a genre variety of diplomatic and legal discourse, and an international treaty is a genre of written texts characteristic of diplomatic and legal discourse.
