International comparisons in tourism statistics

The sphere of international tourism activity plays an important role in the life of society and impact on many national economies. Even though domestic tourism is currently recognized as a development priority in our country, the Russian Federation remains an important entity in the international tourism market. In order to assess the place and role of the country in the international tourism market, as well as to have a reliable tool for assessing the development of national tourism, it is necessary to use international comparisons in tourism statistics, which determined the relevance of the research topic. The analysis of time series on the development of tourism and comparative analysis were used as research methods. The authors identify the main sources of statistical data on the development of tourism, necessary for international statistical comparisons in tourism, and formulate evidence-based recommendations for international comparisons in tourism statistics, including the composition of the information and statistical database. The proposed methodological approach to international comparisons in tourism statistics can be used at any level of management of the tourism and hospitality industry in the elaboration of tourism development programs and sustainable development strategies for tourism and hospitality enterprises.
