The article is devoted to the problems of interethnic relations in the largest country in Southeast Asia - Indonesia, which has one of the most multiethnic populations in the world and the complex nature of relations between the ethnic groups inhabiting it, which developed over the centuries of their coexistence on the islands of the Malay Archipelago. Particular attention is paid to the role of the alien Chinese ethnic group in the modern ethnic structure of Indonesia and the reasons for the complex relations with the indigenous ethnic groups of Indonesia. The main interethnic conflicts in modern Indonesia, their causes and consequences are analyzed.
