After the adoption of the confessional manifesto of April 17, 1905, the Volyn region, along with the entire Western Russian region of the Russian Empire, became the center of interfaith and national confrontation. This article is an attempt to illuminate the interfaith situation in the Volyn Diocese based on materials from church periodicals following April 17, 1905 – the date of the signing of the manifesto “On Strengthening the Principles of Religious Tolerance”, until October 30, 1909 – the adoption by the State Duma of the law “Concerning Changes to the Law Regulating Movement from One Confession to Another”. This time frame is due to the fact that it was during this period that the most severe confrontation between Catholics and Orthodox took place in the Western territories of the Russian Empire.
