Cross-cultural and interlanguage pragmatics and multilingualism: theories and methodologies

The article dwells on the current theories and methodologies underlying language pragmatics within cultural and linguistic approaches. The author makes a review of the concepts existing in Western and Russian linguistic descriptive traditions. In particular, such theories as Gracian pragmatics, politeness theory as well as interlanguage theory and language personality theory are considered as theoretical and methodological grounds for pragmatic research. Considering the contemporary realia of multilingualism and globalisation the theories need reviewing.
