The article deals with culture as a phenomenon of social life, its spiritual sphere and as a personal quality, which manifests itself in the relationship of the individual. The authors formulate the definition of "intercultural communication" on the basis of existing definitions in modern pedagogical science. The main functions, principles and forms of "intercultural communication" are revealed. Culture is a system of spiritual forms of security of living. Culture is a specific feature of man, which he/she has from the beginning of its existence. It covers all aspects of human life. Cultural orientation is determined by each individual consciously and unconsciously by his belonging to a particular cultural community. The impact of cultural tradition, that is, the transfer of cultural experience to the next generation is the key point. Culture influences and is influenced by the very existence of any human activity. People grow up and are educated in a society and culturally programmed individual brain usually does not accept, ignores what contradicts to accepted and recognized in the community, "the truth" of life. Culture makes life easier by providing ready-made solutions to the problems, establishing the model of relationships and ways of preserving the unity of the nation, group, organization.
