The paper emphasizes that at present intercultural communications actualize the problems of multi-level dialogue, which reveals the specifics of creating a “communicative field" - a complex process that includes linguistic, ethnocultural and psychological aspects. To increase the level of communicative effectiveness of programs for the formation of civic identity, it is necessary to understand the multiculturalism and poly-confessional nature of modern Russian society. The relevance of the research is due to the need to study the dynamics of intercultural interactions in the context of the development of the traditional type of communication as the primary basis of culture, as well as their transformation under the influence of socio-cultural and political conditions. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the cultural space of the North Caucasus in the context of the development of intercultural communications in the region. The research objectives are to determine the communicative functions of traditional culture, to analyze folk art as a system of socio-cultural communications, as well as to study the influence of intercultural communications on the formation of the cultural space of the North Caucasus in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods. The novelty of the study lies in the methodology of historical cultural studies, which explores the systemically important stages of the development of cultural space as a sustainable product of social communication.
