Intercultural dialogue in the South Caucasus countries: problems and prospects

The article addresses the problems of establishing intercultural dialogue between the countries of the South Caucasus in modern realities. The aim of the study is to identify possible ways of developing communication between the Caucasian states based on overcoming and accepting cultural differences. Methodology is based on historical-comparative and geopolitical analysis of relations between the countries of the region (Abkhazia, Georgia, South Ossetia). The novelty of the study is due to considering international organizations as mediators that promote cooperation between conflicting parties in this region. Based on the research conducted, conclusion dwells upon the fact that the development of intercultural dialog is a condition for overcoming the existing disagreements by the states of the Transcaucasus. However, it is also noted that due to their special international legal status, Abkhazia and South Ossetia need the assistance and mediation of authoritative international organizations, in particular UNESCO, to be included in intercultural dialogue on an equal footing with other countries of the region.
