The article deals with the activities of the regional ethnographer M.I. Smirnov who was engaged in the preservation of the monuments of art and antiquity during the first post-revolutionary decades. The museum, organized under his leadership in 1918, collected cultural treasures rescued from Pereslavl estates, monasteries and churches.
