Myth as a potential in discourse interpretation

Бесплатный доступ

Defining the target of interpretation we often look upon it as a number of abstract concepts linked directly to text, and describe the recipient's objective in terms of meaningful ideas. Illustrating ideal patterns, a text offers its interpreter time to drill down to its minute details that build up the meaningful framework. With discourse we lack the time to fathom the structure and go straight through to the author's personality, its representation being such as he himself chooses. We presume that the author of a discourse represents some situationally relevant idea of himself in discourse, and this representation we call a myth.
