The article reveals the relationship of mythological elements - mythology, «secondary mythology», the modern myth - in the artistic space of the «Uliger On Childhood» novel by Vladimir Barayev. It has been established that the myth in the novel is used both as an ethnographic material and as a form of comprehension of reality; the narrator himself and his characters can act as bearers of mythological thinking. It is shown that the mythologism is an integral part of the author's attitude, embodying ideas about the origin of the people, their history, the image of the past and the future. The use of mythological imagery allows V. Baraev to structure the facts of national history and organize the “chaos” of modern reality.
