Migration of the Alans and the Germanic peoples to the plain and Mountainous Crimea at the end of the 1st-3rd centuries

Stories by Zosimus and Zonaras describing the Germanic peoples crossing the strait from the European coast to the Asian coast give grounds to believe that the Germanic peoples attacked the Bosporus Strait from the area of the steppe Crimea rather than the Lower Tanais river. It is clear that shortly before their military campaign to capture the capital of the Bosporan Kingdom, but not before 252, the Germanic peoples had already settled down in Tauris so that they could capture ships. Evidence from the written sources and archaeological contexts point to arrival of the Alans to the western part of the Inner Ridge of the Crimean Mountains early in the 2nd century and migration of the Germanic peoples and the Alans to the mountainous Crimea around the middle of the 3rd century.
