In the article based on published documents and archives examines the migration movement of the population of Zlatoust in the 1920-1930s. The city is of interest because in the period of industrial modernization in it was no a new industrial construction, as in the large cities of the Urals, but reconstruction of industrial production was carried out. In the context of a decrease in the natural population growth, migration began to play a leading role in the formation of the contingent of citizens and ensured the rapid growth of residents of Zlatoust. Among the immigrants, male representatives of working age prevailed. By social status, these were avocational, mainly workers and office workers. The main source of replenishment of the population of the studied city was intraregional migration. Most of the external migrants came from the territories adjacent to Zlatoust - the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and the Middle Volga region. The specifics of the city consisted in the fact that at the expense of intraregional migration mainly urban dwellers moved to the city, and at the expense of external migration - rural residents. The authors make a reasonable conclusion that the population of Zlatoust was in the second phase of the migration transition.
