February 9, 2007 marked the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Madrid and Moscow, which were interrupted in 1939. Since the end of the 1970s. Spain was in the transition from authoritarianism to democracy and was looking for ways to connect to active international life. This found widespread understanding and support in our country, in which the tendency towards openness and overcoming the Cold War was growing. These phenomena created the prerequisites for the rapid emergence of new relations of stable and mutually beneficial cooperation between the Soviet Union and Spain. The fundamental point is that in the context of globalization between our countries there is a real area of mutual interests: in the political sphere, economy, culture and other areas.
