The article deals with the problem of ideological, philosophical aspects of modern sports activities by a case study of mixed martial arts. The study presents the peculiarities of the ancient Greek martial arts without rules, i.e. the ancient pankration, describes the ideals of Greek culture that guided the struggle for the status of citizens of that time. Summarizing the theoretical information about mixed martial arts, the authors show that modern professional sport and MMA as a part of American culture are a transnational conglomerate: economic, political and informational one, where it is harder to regard the high-level athlete as a national hero of a state. Therefore, the problem is in the fact that through the negative and aggressive information, the influence on consciousness and subconsciousness of a multimillion TV audience and the Internet users, new ethical standards, values and behavior rules are introduced. Afterwards, they can be projected onto the external social environment and can change the nature and structure of social relations correspondingly.
