Taking into account the actuality of problems concerning the modern society intellectual development and the potential of new forms of upbringing and education, the author proves the necessity to include more comprehensive subjects on history of religion, Russian religious philosophy, religious art in syllabi of schools and higherschools. The article contains various approaches of scholars and theologians to icon study. Special attention is paid to the semeiotic approach.
