The long-term experience of the ischemic stroke surgical prevention

Morbidity and mortality from stroke in the world is high and the problem of stroke prevention is still rather acute. The article presents a review of ischemic stroke surgical prevention results that were received during 12 years in Novosibirsk state research institute of blood circulation pathology. The concept of surgical and of ischemic stroke medical prevention is presented, based on the knowledge gained from epidemiological studies conducted in open populations of cities in Siberia and the Far East. We proposed algorithms and standards (guidelines) of examination and treatment of these patients after analysis of performed studies. Program of ischemic stroke surgical prevention was developed to optimize organizational and preventive measures. Results of epidemiological and clinical studies have been widely reported in the leading journals and have been presented in a number of dissertations. Guidelines and recommendations of these studies are used in physicians practice in our institute.
