The features of the multilevel system of organization of laboratory classes in physics, developed by the authors and implemented in the educational process of Togliatti State University, are considered. The possibilities of using several levels of complexity of conducting a laboratory workshop to solve research problems when performing laboratory work are shown. A system of using full-scale and virtual workshops is proposed, based on an integrated approach that contributes to the formation of research competencies among engineering students.
