Mobility in the modern world: approaches to understanding and new formats

Currently, mobility studies have begun to cover a wider range of mobility formats, including not only the social and territorial movements of individuals and groups but also their readiness for themand adaptation mechanisms to upcoming, ongoing, or already past social, economic, and cultural changes. The emergence of new and diverse formats of mobility requires their further sociological understanding. The advanced development and complications of objective reality emphasize not only the relevance but also the obvious necessity of its scientific study and description.Our research is aimed at identifying and characterizing the specifics of the new forms of mobility that have emerged, assessing their scale in society and their role in the everyday lives of individuals and social groups. Using the methods of analyzing statistical data and data from scientific works, the article critically examines the evolution of the concept of “mobility” in sociology.Particular attention is paid to modern concepts such as the “mobile turn” and “multi-dimensional mobility”. The results obtained include the identification of new formats of mobility in various spheres of society, including characteristics and prospects for their development in the future.The authors include the concepts of mobility-as-a-service, infrastructure mobility, global labor mobility, and managed migration mobility, the development of digital tourism and travel, and new forms of digital academic mobility as new formats. The article offers an integrated approach to the sociological understanding of mobility as well as an analysis of modern social processes through the prism of the mobile world. The article particularly emphasizes the individualization of sociocultural life in the context of the subjective experience of mobility and its consequences.
