Model for improving the institution of exemption from criminal liability in the criminal law of the Russian Federation

The paper discusses promising ways for improving the set of rules governing exemption from criminal liability in modern domestic criminal law. The author highlights that an additional study of the mentioned institute has revealed a number of shortcomings both in terms of the given legislative form and the internal regulatory content. The criteria for distinguishing types of exemption is proposed in the study, the necessity of introducing new types of exemption from criminal liability (in particular, in connection with the abolition or amendment of the criminal law, on bail) is justified, as well as the modernization which is already regulated in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Specific proposals have been formulated to introduce a number of legislative developments. As a result, a theoretical model for optimizing the criminal law in the referred part is constructed.
