The model for accounting deformations occurring in the wheel - bearing friction units is presented. The model permits to estimate the effect of the tangential deformation dynamics in the wheel - rail system on the pulling force dynamics applied to the wheel centre of inertia. The obtained mathematical apparatus describes the friction unit system dynamics before the grip break.
