The study is devoted to the possible consequences of the impact of intensively spreading social media on political stability. The involvement of social media in the major political scandals of the last decade and the numerous reports of invasion of privacy, the sale of personal information of users and the use of social networks for political purposes, in particular to strengthen authoritarian regimes, are the focus of academic research. This study examines the models and mechanisms of the impact of social networks on political stability. As a result, it is possible to conditionally single out the general and narrow principles underlying the theoretical models of the influence and mechanism of the action of social networks on political stability. The practical significance of the study lies in the areas of predictive analysis, regulatory policy in the field of state interaction and information management, as well as political security issues.
