The patterns of teacher-students communication at foreign language lessons

The article focuses on the patterns of teacher-students interaction which were identified by the analysis of 10 lessons videotaped in various Russian schools. The prior researches on this subject are summarized and the term of "classroom communicative competence" is defined. The authors review the lessons with the purpose to reveal some particular patterns of teacher-student communication. The authors identify 12 main patterns of interaction and provide an overview of their frequency of occurrence. It is concluded that it is necessary to develop the teachers’ professional classroom communicative competence.
