The need to study sustainable development in the triad of "socio-environmental-economic" relationships for the regions of Russia in identifying methodological approaches today is as relevant as possible. The influence of exogenous shocks transforms the integrity of the sustainable development of subjects, leads to even greater differentiation of regional differences, creates an imbalance in relationships, and the task of finding and assessing the degree of imbalance can help develop recommendations for improving the methods of regulating social, environmental, and economic processes on this basis. In the article, the author, based on modeling using complex indices, evaluates the position of the Northwestern Federal District in terms of the balance of development of the socio-ecological-economic system.
