The article analyzes the trends in the fashionable behavior of young people from the standpoint of opportunities for social adaptation. Fashion is a significant social and psychological mechanism of cultural and creative socialization of young people. Hobbies are analyzed as forms of activity that are of particular interest to the individual, are used for recreation, skills development, education and other personally significant activities. Hobbies that are more popular in certain social groups in a particular period are defined as trendy hobbies. The author presents the results of an original study of interrelation between young people's orientation and trendy hobbies and the level of achievement, avoidance, approval motivation with the participation of 112 students aged 20 to 25. To study preferences in hobbies, the author's questionnaire of attitudes towards fashion and trends in fashionable behavior was used; to study motivational characteristics, the "Test of learning to achieve success / avoid failure" by T. Ehlers, the Marlow-Crown "Evaluation of the need for approval" method, adapted by Yu. L. Khanina. Data were obtained on the importance of following fashion trends in the choice of hobbies. Young people prefer hobbies related to social networks (blogging, pages, creating posts, photography, etc.), creative activities, sports. Most of the participants choose designing computer games and participation in them as their hobbies. It is shown that involvement in fashionable hobbies is significantly interconnected with the motives of approval, allows realizing the need for conformity and belonging to a significant social group, and also helps to reduce the motivation to avoid failure.
