The article examines the ways of representing memory in the texts of the “Diaries” of 1973– 1983 by theologian and preacher Archpriest Alexander Schmemann (1921–1983), a significant figure in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad. The analysis is carried out in two planes: on the one hand, through his personal memories, the author of the diary constructs an image of the past and his identity, on the other hand, he reflects on memory itself as a phenomenon. The published individual memories of Fr. Alexander are integrated into a wider circle of social memory of society, moving from personal to public discourse. In addition, the theme of the coexistence of two types of memory in his notes is touched upon: profane and sacred, addressed to the worldly and spiritual aspects of life.
