Youth and religion in the context of Russia's national security

The article examines the role of religion in the life of the modern youth. Religion is one of the sources of moral values that unite the society. Although, it can also become a factor of disunity, which is encouraged by intensification of religious extremist movements involving the young into their activities, propagating hatred and animosity. The socio-cultural situation both in the world and in a particular country is characterized by the growth of “religiously-tinted” events. This is why religious tenets of the modern youth are becoming one of the aspects of ensuring national public security. On the one hand, religion acts as a social moderator, setting certain rules and norms of behavior, such as “thou shalt not kill”, “thou shalt not steal”, “thou shalt not bear false witness”, though, on the other hand, today “pseudo-religions” have become widely spread, and young people often fall victim to religious extremism and terrorism, and this is one of the major challenges for the world system...
