Monasteries of the Pskov Diocese at the Turn of the 19th–20th Centuries (Based on the Materials of the Annual Diocesan Reports)

Reports to the Holy Governing Synod on the state of dioceses are an important source for the history of the Church in the Synodal era. On the basis of annual reports on the state of the Pskov Diocese, the state of the monasteries of the diocese from the middle of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century was analyzed. The reports describe the number of monasteries, the size of the brotherhood, economic life, the moral state of the inhabitants, as well as the problems that existed in the monasteries. The reports, like other protocol documents, were often drawn up in a formulaic manner, but especially noteworthy points were discussed separately.
