The paper discusses the moralism as a structural element of American society originated from the doctrine of the Puritans. The devotion to the Lord having the absolute power appeared as a principle of social morality which, in turn, is equated to the holiness that does not give the right to choose between the Good and the Evil to a human being. This state of affairs is presented as a distinctive feature of Puritanism. The author offers to research the morality in its sociocultural distinctness, determining the moral nature of society as a whole. It is stated that the moralistic perception of life, people and their actions permeate the entire American society and its members where the morality has ceased to be part of the faith on the way to salvation but it has turned into the means in the competitive struggle for the elimination of rivals.
