The author analyses the works of Semyon Frank regarding the concept of private property. While considering private property an economic necessity, Frank denied the utilitarian attitude to property as a means of increasing one's welfare and, therefore, tried to reconcile the idea of property with religious-moral and socio-philo-sophical positions. The author argues that, according to Frank, private property is a necessary condition for an individual's freedom; notably, not in the interests of the owners, but in the interests of society, and is subject to restriction when in conflict. The moral justification for property by Frank is therefore based on the idea of serving society, that is, it is considered in its absolute, not functional meaning as well as in the implementation of the essence of property.
