Rheumatism predominated in the etiology of mitral/ tricuspid diseases up until 1980. In the beginning of eighties the population of patients changed, with the number of rheumatic patients reduced to 39%. Degenerative-dystrophic damages of the valves became prevalent and according to some data now account for 52%. Other causes of atrioventricular abnormalities include IE (infective endocarditis), tumorous valves, traumatism, etc [1]. Congenital anomalies of heart valves also occur.
