“Maritime population” of Amur region (latter half of the XIX - the early XX centuries)

This article discusses the development fishing industry in the Amur region in the context of the colonial policy of Imperial power in the Far East on the eve of the 20th century. The Amur region, uniting the Primorye (it including the Sakhalin) and Amur territories, with established fishing and hunting traditions, was a rich source of fish resources. Their elaboration was intended to solve economic, social and political problems of the country. Initially the development of region relied on the peasantry, but after the urban population have adopted the baton of successful fishermen. They mainly based in the city of Nikolaevsk - one of the first Russian Pacific ports, in which the fish industry was formed. The study is based on the reporting of research materials in the second half of XIX - early XX century.
