The article reveals the history of construction of the grandiose complex of the late 1990s – early 200s of the Moscow International Business Center “Moscow City”. The project developed by the Russian architect B.I. Thor and approved in 1991 by the Mayor of Moscow Yu.M. Luzhkov, began to be realized in a difficult historical and economic period for the country. B.I. Thor proposed to build a business center consisting of skyscrapers in the city center, four kilometers from the Kremlin. The architect believed that they would not break the dominant of the Kremlin, but would transfer the business and cultural life of the city to “Moscow City”, as it was in the largest cities of the world: London, Paris, New York, etc. Thus, the load on the center of the capital will be reduced. Both Russian and foreign architects were invited to implement the project: M.M. Posokhin, G.L. Sirota, S.E. Choban, American Frank Williams, German Peter Schweger, etc. When designing the towers, the architects used the best styles of modernity, such as high-tech, neo-constructivism, Art Nouveau, etc., innovative technologies, the latest building materials and equipment. In 2021, 30 years have passed since the beginning of the implementation of the project. 20 towers have been built – each one is unique. Among them there are towers that have no analogues in the world: “Federation”, “Evolution”, “Mercury”, etc. The deviations from the original plans are considered, which is associated with the requirements of investors, insufficient financing, violation of construction deadlines, rejection of some key projects. However, MIBC “Moscow City” today is the most important part of the city. The chief architect of Moscow, S.O. Kuznetsov, notes that the construction of the “Big City” is planned, which will originate from the “Moscow City” and will spread over an area of more than 1000 ha. It is concluded that the study of the construction of the Moscow – City MIBC will help to avoid mistakes in the development of such projects; gives students the opportunity to get acquainted with the achievements of modern architects; orients yesterday’s schoolchildren when choosing a specialty and university.
