The analysis of internal and external factors that affect the motivation of a teacher of higher education is presented. The influence of these factors on the effectiveness of Pedagogical activity in higher education is considered. The special significance of the teacher's motivation in the formation and development of abilities and creative qualities of representatives of the younger generations is noted. The necessity of implementing a systematic approach to solving problems of increasing the motivation of teachers is justified.
