Power motivation of a manager and employees through the effectiveness of management teams

The article analyses the psychological characteristics of the implementation of the power motivation in management teams and its impact on the effectiveness of an individual and joint activities. The projective diagnostics based on TAT was used as the primary method of research. The method of expert assessments in the form of ranking was applied to determine the efficiency of the management teams. There were 20 target teams as an object, each is a department of the municipal administration of the company. For each member of the team the intensity of the power motivation was measured to highlight the two criteria for the analysis: the general factor of the power motivation of the team (as the average), the predominance of values of the power motivation in the system "manager - employees". The results confirm that the efficient and inefficient teams have different characteristics of the power motivation for the certain criteria. The crucial role is the combination of the manifestation of the power motivation in the system "manager - employees". Also the article emphasizes the important psychological and akmeological determinants of power motivation related to sex and birth order of the managers. It also identifies trends which can reveal the new aspects of the system "manager - employees" and identify ways to improve the efficiency of administrative and human resources.
