The article features a systematic study of hagiographcal motives in the system, which provides the stability of a genre canon in a hagiography. The authors consider the mechanism and reasons why the universal plot scheme of the myth, the focus on the special way to reflect reality, the denial of an author's will and the special nature of ideal medieval esthetic values contribute to making up the system. The paper reveals that the system of hagiographical motives has a specific structure not only within this particular genre as a whole but also within its subdivisions – hagiographical types which differ in details of a saint's life and salvation.
