Morphometric changes of the brain were studied in 226 drug- addicted subjects and in 106 controls before and after performed MRI-guided stereotaxic intervention. 73 (23%) of drug- addicted subjects revealed atrophic cerebral changes with prevalence of diffuse atrophy (36%). Diffuse cerebral atrophy dominated in heroin abusers (44%) and in chronic addicts (53%).
