Multiculturalism in Western Europe: causes of failure

In the article the origins and content of the current policy of multiculturalism implemented in Western European countries are analyzed. Attention is drawn to the semantic differences between the terms «multicultural-ism» and «multiculturality». Resarch bases on the previous work of theorists in the field of multiculturalism and national policies in this sphere, as well as on statistical data presented in the reports of international conferences. As a result, we can note the failure of policy of multiculturalism. Probably one of the main reasons for little success of it are, firstly, the low level of tolerance of citizens in European countries (both indigenous and immigrants), and secondly, the cultural features of Third World countries, which create obstacle to the rapid integration of migrants into the European community. The article describes examples of the most significant ethno-cultural conflicts that creates reason for criticism of multicultural construct. The article has theoretical character.
